Experience some challenging uphill trekking along an awesomely beautiful route. Start from Candi Beach Cottage and walk through Sengkidu Village, then climb Gumang Hill with a break for lunch at Pengubugan Village. Here, neighbouring beehives produce lime blossom honey, and the forest bears salak (snakefruit), coconuts, coffee, and mangosteen, which is known locally as manggis.
Located a few kilometres inland, way above Candi Beach Cottage is a grass-roofed bamboo ‘bale’. This small, elevated, open-sided gazebo belongs to the resort; a relaxation pavilion set amid steeply terraced rice fields carved like a giant’s staircase into the hillside. The panoramic view from this special place is magnificent, overlooking forest, rice fields, the Buhu River and the mountains of Lempuyang and Seraya. A broad fertile plain stretches boundlessly towards Candidasa Bay, the shimmering sea, the Blue lagoon, and the islands of Nusa Penida, Pulau Kambing and Pulau Bukit Bia; and on a clear day you can see Lombok’s Mt Rinjani.
